Njila on NPR: Recovering Black Family History

Njila founder Brandi Richard Thompson joined host Karen Henderson on NPR’s Louisiana Considered to talk about the West Baton Rouge Museum’s Explorations in Genealogy series and the work of recovering Black family histories the record left out.

Our people were property in the record before they were people in it. Finding them takes a method built for how those records were actually kept: sourced, cited, and defensible. That is the work of Njila, and it is what Brandi teaches in every room.
